TOPEKA, KANSAS - Howard James "Jim" Greene, 54, Topeka, died Friday, November 13, 1998, at his home.  Mr. Greene worked for T.D. Wilson Painting until he retired due to illness.  He was born April 26, 1944, in Topeka, the son of Merton and Velma Bowles Greene.  He was a graduate of Highland Park High School and was a lifelong Topeka resident.  He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

He was married to Carole Vigneron on July 25, 1987, in Topeka.  She survives.  Other survivors include six daughters, Ronda Bradley, Jenny Greene, Debbie Greene, and Melissa Brock, all of Topeka; Jamie Greene in California, and Brandy Lynn Greene in Washington; five sons; James Robert Greene, Travis Davison, Noah Croney, and Jerry Bradley, all of Topeka, and Mark Reser, Lansing; three sisters, Berta Madison, Lola Barnhill, and Helen Whitesell, all of Topeka; four brothers, Eldon Greene, Ed Green, Walter Greene and Bob Greene, Sr., all of Topeka; and 14 grandchildren.  Mr. Greene was preceded in death by four sons, Ronnie Greene, Ricky Greene, Rocky Greene, and Brett Michael Green.

Services were at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 17 at the patio at Topeka Cemetery.  Memorial contributions were made to New Hope Baptist Church.
