Becky Bayless (Remy)

TOPEKA, KANSAS - Rebecca “Becky” (Bayless) Remy, age 78 of Topeka, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2023, at her home.

Born on November 7, 1944, Becky was lovingly raised by Mildred and Norbit Wege in Topeka along with her brother Thomas A. Bayless. She attended Rice Elementary and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1962. After attending Washburn as well as Kansas State, in 2005 Becky earned her Bachelor’s degree from Baker University, where she was proudly inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Becky’s lifelong love of learning was evident as she continued to take classes appealing to her wide array of interests, including her favorite pastimes of cooking and photography.

Becky led a very busy and productive life, and she cherished her dear friends and family. An avid sports fan, you could always count on her to be cheering on the Jayhawks and the Royals. She was incredibly thoughtful and never missed an opportunity to share a kind thought, a keen insight, a home-baked treat, and a generous and loving spirit with the many friends with whom she developed deep connections over many years. With impressive organizational skills and near eidetic memory, Becky was a true dynamo when it came to keeping up with her vast network and always offering words of love and affirmation regarding important dates and anniversaries. All of her friends and family will affectionately remember her eternal optimism, determination, inherently curious nature, love of animals, grit, and can-do spirit.

Between significant stints at the Kansas Inspection Bureau and Frito-Lay, Becky spent the majority of her professional career – nearly 30 years – at the Menninger Foundation where she served as Administrative Coordinator and Executive Assistant to the President & CEO. Her professional pursuits did not start and end in the workplace, however, as she remained involved in many organizations. These included serving as a charter member of the KEEN Chapter of ABWA, a member of the Board of Directors of Florence Crittenton, and on the Board of her Homeowners’ Association. She also loved to volunteer for various causes close to her heart, including supporting the Treasures of the Czar exhibit and, most recently, the Menninger Pocket Park.

Becky was married to Joe Remy from 1972-1980 and continued to maintain relationships with her stepsons John and Steve Remy and their families. She doted on her Godson Damien Baranski and many others important in her life, all of whom knew her as “Aunt Becky.” She is survived by a loving family who miss her dearly, including her brother Tom (Deb) Bayless, nephew Scott and grand-nephews Jack & Cole Bayless, niece Lisa (Jay) Orlandi and grand-niece Grace. Her step-father, Norbit Wege and mother, Mildred (Pendleton) Wege, pre-deceased her in 2002 and 2007, as did her birth father, Allen Bayless of Potosi, Missouri, in 2014.

Among Becky’s final wishes was to send her love and a big hug to all of her extended family and friends and some sage advice to enjoy living life to the fullest and to love always. In lieu of flowers, Becky requests that those who wish to remember her to please do so by practicing random acts of kindness. Rather than a formal funeral service, Becky requested that her life be celebrated with a party. She was cremated and buried at Mount Hope Cemetery. To leave a special message for the family online, and check back for further information regarding the forthcoming scheduling of the Celebration of Becky Remy’s beautiful life that ended far too soon, please visit
